service life

Your SoftBank phone can make and receive calls for 60 days from the date your initial reload is added.  Each reload extends the validity of your phone an additional 60 days, for each reload purchased, to a maximum of one year.  If the phone is not reloaded within 360 days the SIM card will be de-activated and all credit will be lost.

activation and usage instructions

To activate your SoftBank phone simply follow the instructions below:

• travel to Japan
   
• make sure your phone is charged and turn it on
   
• dial "1400" then press the send button (green phone icon).  Press "3" and then "2".  You will then hear a prompt in English to confirm language change, press "#" and then "9" to exit.  You can then end your call
   
• you will then need to dial "1400" then press the send button.  Select option 2 to enter your reload code
   
• scratch off the black area on the back of the included prepaid airtime card and enter the reload code
   
• you will then hear your balance and expiration date.  You can then end your call
   
• your SoftBank phone is now ready to make and receive calls!

After your first outgoing call, your SoftBank phone will be ready to receive incoming calls.  If you have problems making calls or have any questions simply dial "113" for Customer Service.

The country code for Japan is "81".  People calling from the US would need to dial "011", the country code and then your phone number to reach you.

To make international calls using your SoftBank phone simply dial "010", the country code and then the phone number.

adding credit

Reload/recharge cards are available throughout Japan at 7-Eleven, Sunks, Lowsons, SoftBank mobile stores and many other stores displaying the J-Phone logo.  Reload cards, called the "PreCa", are available in dominations of ¥3,000 (~$28) and ¥5,000 (~$47).

To reload your SoftBank phone simply follow the instructions below:

• dial "1400" then press the send button.  Select option 2 to enter your reload code
   
• follow the instructions to enter your reload card's serial number followed by the "#" sign.  You can then end your call
